Welcome to
The Learning Garden

We are a long time family that has used The Learning Garden. Our son attended at age 2 until he went to kindergarten. Our daughter is currently enrolled. The hours and pricing have worked very well for our family. We’ve had a great experience with the owners and staff. There has never been a moment we’d consider leaving. Thank you Learning Garden and staff for taking such great care of our family over the years!

Parent Since 2018

Our daughter has been going to the learning garden for over a year now. We switched from a large daycare chain and couldn’t be happier with how much our daughter is learning and how well she is cared for by her teachers everyday.

Parent Since 2020

We have been a Learning Garden family since our son was 6 weeks old. I could not imagine him anywhere else. The staff is accommodating with our sons health needs, supportive through milestones and challenges, care as if the children were their own, and provide new experiences.
I highly recommend this center to any other families! I will be sad to leave when our son goes to kindergarten in a couple years.

Our Story

The Learning Garden began in 2012 when Angela Kapp transformed a closing Head Start program at the Hubert H. Humphrey Job Corps campus into her own center, opening under Midwest Child Development, LLC.

Over the years, we expanded to several locations and, in 2018, became The Learning Garden. In 2023, we focused our care at one location in Maplewood, adapting to post-Covid changes and staffing challenges.

In 2024, ownership passed to Ashley (Lindback) Kapp, continuing our family legacy of quality early childhood education. Conveniently located near Hwy 61 and Hwy 36, we provide nurturing care and education for children ages 6 weeks through kindergarten entry.

Our Programs

At The Learning Garden, we provide full-day care and quality early education for children ages 6 weeks to kindergarten entry. Our nurturing, play-based program includes meals, supplies, and enriching activities that support each child’s growth and curiosity. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and strong family partnerships, we create a warm, engaging environment where children thrive

Enriching Learning Environment

The Learning Garden has chosen to use a research-based curricula in our program, High Scope, which was designed for use in early childhood programs serving children under the age of five. The Learning Garden and High Scope share the philosophy that young children learn best by doing.

Each classroom develops its own schedule that includes:

  • Mealtimes

  • Large and Small Group Work

  • Diapering and/or Potty Training

  • Stories, Songs and Finger-plays

  • Outdoor Play or Large Muscle Activities

  • Nap/Rest Time (for full-day children, infants are on their own individual schedule)

  • Time for children to choose activities in Learning Centers

Each week the teachers enrich the Learning Centers with engaging activities corresponding to the weekly study topic. The Learning Center areas may include:

  • Art/Easel

  • Blocks

  • Dramatic Play

  • Language & Literacy

  • Science/Discovery

  • Cooking

  • Music & Movement

  • Sand & Water

  • Toys & Games

Teachers work with parents to set goals for children that are designed to meet individual needs and interests of each child. These goals are based on the teacher’s classroom observations and parent input. These goals are reviewed at each parent-teacher conference or home visit. Each week the teachers plan activities to meet these goals and that encourage the development of children’s skills in the areas of:

  • Social and Emotional Development

  • Approaches to Learning

  • Language Development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Creative Arts

  • Physical Health and Development
